books that have profoundly affected me
- Come Be My Light, not a “book” per se, rather a series of writings collected over 66 years by Mother Theresa- most of which she had asked to be destroyed. Want to feel lukewarm? Read this book. It details her intimacy with Jesus, and despite her never-ending “dark night of the soul” it was this suffering that allowed her the opportunity to see exactly the kind of darkness the people she was ministering to felt.
- The Kid Who Climbed Everest, by Bear Grylls. I really enjoyed this book because it chronicles Bear’s relationship with Jesus alongside the difficulties of climbing a physical mountain. Blasphemous? Not sure- but the Easter service he puts on for his teammates where the blood is a shot of whiskey was rather endearing.
