I came across your blog post in an odd way today, but want to encourage you to speak...and to let Scripture speak. Often the stories of women are silenced, or at least interpreted and exegeted in a way that makes some ancillary or sub-point but doesn't tell their actual, living-breathing story. There is something incredibly powerful and beautiful about allowing a woman's voice (yours) to speak life into the silenced voices in those pages. I'm cheering for you!!!

At a more personal level, having gone to Seminary and receiving my MDiv, I understand much of what you're struggling with. Fortunately, my institution was, in large part what moved me into feminism...in the midst of my faith. My church, on the other hand - well, that's another story.

Keep reading. Keep interpreting. Keep speaking. Keep writing. You're needed.

Hi,

I'm one of Paul's friends, a former student of Enns at WTS, and his continued friend. (Full disclosure: I also webmaster his web site, http://peterennsonline.com).

You are beginning to experience the cognitive dissonance that so many of us have been through. Why do we have to be so afraid of questioning positions such as Mosaic authorship? How can schools like yours and WTS even pretend to be doing "scholarship" when they won't engage honestly with such questions.

Each will have to find his own way in this. Somehow I made it through my five years at WTS, though toward the end I was increasingly persona non grata there. But the end result? I'm left very, very cynical toward the orthodox Christian establishment, especially in the Reformed world. I got up close and personal with the Emperor, and he has no clothes.

You can try asking honest questions about it. You can try to bring up the very good scholarship that has been done with these questions. But I fear in the end you will eventually run up against the same impenetrable wall I did. At some point your professors will stop smiling, and you will find out that "genius" is not guarantee of intellectual integrity.
